Rain, Rain go away

I’m sitting here in my office listening to the roaring thunder and the pitter patter of the rain hitting my window. I hope the sun shines soon.

Sorry it’s been so long since I posted. The campus has been a buzz with all things orientation lately. We, the admissions office, have been busy stuffing name tags, checking students and parents in and making sure that families know where to go once they are on campus. Yes, orientation takes place in June and it is where you get your classes for the fall and picture taken for your id. Of course there are other activities that take place during the 2 day event, but ID’s and classes seem to be the ones asked about most often.

If you are familiar with this blog and know where the links are (up on the right), then you will notice that I have added a new blog by one of our current students. Larisa will be blogging this fall about her adventures in Rome! You can click on her link to find out more about her summer and preparation to study in Italy. As always, let us know what you think.

I hope you are all having an amazing summer so far! Congratulations to the class of 2008!!!

Centennial Buzz

Keene State is getting ready to commemorate a very exciting time in the college’s history. Starting June 14, 2008 and continuing to December 2009, Keene State will be celebrating it’s centennial. That’s right, 100 years of the college! It is a very exciting time to be an Alum, student or prospective student. There is so much history linked to the college and many more memories students, alum, faculty and staff can share. For more information on the centennial please check out the centennial blog with links to all things celebrating 100 years!

Summer Tours

I know it has been a while since I have posted an entry. There have been so many activities happening on campus. Graduation was Sunday, May 11. It was an absolutely beautiful day. We, Keene State College, does an amazing job with graduation. When you walk around and see the beauty of our campus, hear the music being played, the hugs and congratulations between graduate and family and friends, one can not help but smile with pride and joy. Keene State is a wonderful place to be.

This past Friday Keene State was host to a large college fair. Over 157 colleges and universities were on campus to assist high school juniors with the college search process. It was a well attended event and one I would recommend to anyone who lives in the area.

I just want to remind you that the Admissions office is open all summer long. The summer tour schedule is now posted on our website. We will be offering tours during the months of June, July and August. Summer is a great time to visit Keene State.

Hope to see you on campus soon!

May 1

Remember when I posted a while back that May 1 will be here before we know it? Well, May 1 is next week; can you believe it? I know there are many of you accepted students who have still not made up your mind. Do it quick!

Just for Juniors

Many juniors want to visit campus this time of year. We receive many phone calls with requests to visit. If you are new to this blog I encourage you to go back and read; I have listed some very helpful information to our seniors during the year. If you want to visit campus please check our website for tour times and dates. We can not add anyone to the program once a tour is full!! Summer tours are available. Believe it or not, summer is a great time to visit campus!

Remember that as a senior you will have plenty of opportunity to visit in the fall. We also travel all over New England and visit many high schools and attend college fairs throughout the region. Feel free to e-mail me over the summer to see if we will be attending your high school or a college fair near you.

As you plan your courses for senior year keep in mind that just meeting the minimum requirements will not gain you access into Keene State College. You must challenge yourself up through senior year. The average GPA last year was a 3.0/4.0 scale and the average SAT was 1020 (Critical Reading and Math ONLY).

Spring Touring

I just spent the last week in Vermont traveling to various college fair around the state. I met some great students while there. If I had a chance to speak to you, please be sure to visit us this summer or fall. Speaking of visiting, I seem to be getting a lot of requests regarding tour dates and times. All of our tours for the remainder of the semester can be found here. If a tour is full please remember that we can not add anymore students to the program. We will also be posting our summer tour schedule within the next month. Summer is a great time to visit campus! If you can’t visit but want to ask questions, feel free to contact me! I can be reached at swatt@keene.edu or online at AIM screen name; KSCSasha.

April Fool’s Day

Wow! So much has been going on and it has been a while since I posted a new entry. I apologize for being away for so long.

Things in the office have been so busy. Our Admitted Student Day programs have been successful and fun. I love meeting the students who will be here next fall.

Spring travel is in full swing. Be sure to visit us at one of the many college fairs we will be traveling to in the next few weeks. We will be attending most New England National College fairs and the NEACAC fairs. Be sure to also check with your high school, we may be visiting a fair near you!

Since today is April 1st I should remind everyone that we are no longer accepting applications for the Fall 2008 semester. This is no joke! If you are still interested in applying to Keene State College please consider us for the Spring 2009 semester.

I should also mention that there are some very exciting things happening around campus as of late. The past weekend was the Academic Excellence Conference here on campus. This conference allows students, who are producing excellent work in their major of study, to share their work with a broad audience. You can view the conference schedule here,

This is a wonderful opportunity for students!

I hope you are all having a successful academic year!

Admitted Student Days

Yesterday kicked off our first (of many) Owl Admitted Student Days. Under cloudy skies, and some rain drops, 90 families visited campus to have one last look around before deciding if Keene State is where they would like to be next fall. The day was full of fun, great presentations and lots of walking and eating (yes the Dining Commons is all you can eat!). If you have been accpeted to Keene for fall 2008 and are still undecided about attending, then the ASD is just for you. You can sign up online here.

Applications for Fall 2008

Due to an increased interest in Keene State College , we have reached full capacity for non-residents (out of state) for the fall 2008 semester. Therefore, we are unable to process any non-resident applications after March 1, 2008. Any applications received after March 1, 2008 will be sent back to the student with instructions for them if they wish to apply for the spring 2009 semester.
