The Green Movement
By Karen Webster
Global climate change has become part of our everyday vocabulary and in turn we see a widespread movement to living “green.” However living “green,” to me isn’t about buying organic products, a hybrid vehicle or cutting down on your water and carbon footprints. It is about the small things; donating clothing, buying second hand, planting a garden, carpooling to work, recycling and spreading knowledge.
Although the small things definitely add up other large movements such as developing alternative energy sources are greatly improving the environment. Currently twenty miles outside of my town of residency there is a wind farm being constructed. This wind farm will benefit the community of Lempster, New Hampshire, as well as surrounding areas, in that it will provide clean energy for over 10,000 homes, produce jobs for the inhabitants of Lempster and help in creating a cleaner and healthier environment. The carbon dioxide emissions will also be greatly reduced, which a big step in improving the world’s environment.
In conclusion it is an individual choice, a community choice and world choice to change our environment’s current condition. So if you believe as an individual and as a citizen of this earth that we are in a great need of change make small efforts, as well as large efforts to “green,” our environment. Recycle, reuse, respect and take responsibility for the world we live in.
