International Relations: Every Country Counts
By Brianna Sartori
So many people question why our country bothers to help the less fortunate areas of the world. Too many people have the mentality of ‘every man for himself’ and have forgotten that we are all affected by each other’s actions. While the economic problems of countries such as Togo and Tanzania may not seem to affect us wealthy Americans in reality they do. For example; when a country falls into deep debt they are more likely to develop ways to make money that may in the long run have an extremely negative global effect (like illegal trafficking of people, drugs, and weapons, and the a higher chance of war, genocide, and conflict between neighboring struggling countries.) The wealthier societies of our earth need to learn that the only way the world as a whole is going to break away from the deep economic crisis is if we work together and develop new methods of interaction within trade, financial support, and debt repayment. If we don’t do this, then many struggling countries will keep falling deeper in debt and wealthier countries will eventually follow.
