A Dreamless America

Viewpoints

By Hannah Bayer
As the economic crisis keeps growing, do people actually see the “American Dream” as accomplishable? People live from day to day instead of trying to achieve something they know they cannot. It is hard for people to put dinner on the table with only one job; they do not need the stress of trying to accomplish anything else. Even if people do achieve the dream, they still seem unsatisfied. Nothing is ever enough in today’s society. Instead a house with a white picket fence, the dream is a huge mansion with a lot of property to go along with it. The dream might be in some people’s mind but it is so distant that is dying fast and people are now just waking up to the reality of life. That reality is hard, but it is better to face it, than to have a dream that is too hard to attain in today’s society. It is too hard to reach because of people’s dissatisfaction with what they have in the dwindling economy.
