In “Toward a More Participatory Democracy” by David Kline, he describes how online blogging has influenced politics in our society. People are posting their opinions on blogs, and they are influencing political conversations. Kline describes how in one blogsite talking about the Dean campaign, that if he didn’t have the internet, his campaign would have never gotten off the ground. They “started with 432 active supporters in the field and that grew to 650,000 in thirteen months,” which is all said to be influenced by the internet and blogging. Another point that Kline makes about the influence of blogging in politics is that “people are even afraid to open their doors to strangers. But they’re not afraid to talk to people online.” Another thing that Kline talks about that catches my attention is his opinion on Bush and the Iraq war. He mentions this a few times throughout the text and says how it’s not only a largely discussed topic in the media but in blogs, which I can relate to since my brother is currently in Iraq. I am learning how blogging is influencing our politics and I think it’s really interesting how people are able to talk to eachother and understand eachother’s opinions about such an important topic.

In “From Cave Paiting to Wonkette” by Dave Burstein, he talks about how blogging is becoming well known around the world. I liked this section because I really enjoy traveling and want to study abroad in Australia during my college career, after I decide on a major. This entire passage was interesting because I didn’t know how popular blogging is and how it’s becoming a key in not only our society but all over the world. I’m not very interested in politics, even though I should be considering that the elections are coming up and my brother is currently in Iraq, which I know is a very controversial political topic. I also didn’t know that politics is involved in blogging and that big cooperations like General Motors were active bloggers as well. I like to read magazines and keep up with the media, and Burstein says that, “some of todays top bloggers will become newspaper and magazine columnists and TV news talent” then that is very relevant to my life because I enjoy watching movies and TV also.
