HW:28 “With Apologies to Virginia Woolf”

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

After taking in this piece of journal from Jezebel, clearly these two women had their intentions for doing what they did. “Barbie Bandits” was the title of the piece I read, and with the verdict I can see why it refers to the ladies as (barbies). Two young ladies with the last names of Johnston and Miller received their sentencing after robbing a bank together. Now in what state of mind are these women in to rob a bank! The maximum sentencing could have been ten years in prison, but after the two “Barbie Bandits” went up to the stand their sentencing seemed to be shortened. Miller received a two year sentence and Johnston ten years on probation. Johnston confessed her feelings in regards to her little sister. However, one would expect a fine young lady to think first before her actions.

HW:26…Chapter 2

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

So after understanding what irony really is I found it hard to relate it to Virginia Woolf’s writing style. Her style of writing to me is very proper and “fragile”. By this I mean old, not really down to earth, but I guess that is why this book is such a hard read. That is also why it was so hard to find little sections of her speaking out with irony or “sarcasm”. I did end up finding a couple however. The first one is on page 32 where she surprisingly drew a professor’s face out of anger and didn’t really know why. Woolf stated, “The professor was nothing but a faggot burning on the top of Hampstead Heath.”  She really only meant that she had finally gotten rid of the picture that was bothering her so much.  Another one that I came across was on page 33. She was discussing what the headlines were in the evening paper, and stated “Somebody had made a big score in South Africa.” I would have thought that she meant with money or a prize type deal, really as I kept reading what she was talking about was a big death. Finally the third one I found was on page 36. Woolf is explaining how there is a looking-glass image is so important to men so that they can empower themselves. She states, “Take it away and man may die, like a drug fiend deprived of his cocaine.” She  really is just saying they rely way too much on it.

HW:23…Fav. of the Week.

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

The article that I found very interesting this week was a love article. Not just any love article however, it was a rehab match made in heaven. As you may or may not know Lindsay Lohan was placed in a rehab some time ago in Utah. She met the man of her dreams there too! Well not really, it didn’t last that much longer when she finally got out. This blog is quite similar to Lindsay’s little story. Kirsten Dunst, well known actress, just recently checked into that same exact rehab facility in Utah. Guess what happened to her, yeah she has a new man! What a coincidence, for the two. The new love birds have been seen holding hands and smoking cigarettes during their walks. We will just have to see how long this rehab romance lasts!

HW:22 Blog Ergo Sum…

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

The paragraph I chose to respond to is on page 94 and carries onto page 95 in the book Blog! This segment is explaining how the blogosphere has now become the next best transformation of media since the news paper. Incidentally, people put information out there in the blogosphere that is almost a cry for help and some are traditional buisness talk. Even more important, Ana Marie Cox is mentioned in this section for her truthful perception. Her views are that if people aren’t leaving their homes because they are so stuck on reading blogs, there will not be as many blogs to read about. But above all, blogs were created to relate media issues to the public, not for one to live off of or even rely on.

HW: 20 cox or Zuniga

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Go wonkette, I read both of the interviews with Markos Zuniga and Ana Cox and one seemed a little boring and the other was interesting. After viewing the two cites I decided that Wonkette would be more likely to persuade my voting.

The blog of Wonkette had a very likable appearance and it was easy to fallow along with. The pictures were of good visual aid and the topics were very easy to get interested in. They definitely drew me in more than Daily Kos.

However, the blog of Daily Kos was very confusing to me, a bit cluttered. There was really too much information for my liking. This is why i would prefer a more “simple” shall  I say format that as a reader is easy to fallow.

HW:18 Scobles’ rules

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Some of the principles that clicked with me when I read an article from Jezebel were: telling the truth, using a human voice, never hides information, posting fast on good news or bad, and knowing the information gatekeeper. The article that I read was “24-year-old Female Meth Addict is, Frankly, Almost Beyond Repair.” In this blog I found those principles because the information was letting us know about this rich 24-year-old who was living the life and not doing a thing. The author is talking to the reader in a human voice and not hiding a thing. It also referred to a video clip acknowledging where the information came from. I’m not really sure if this article is not following Scoble’s principles or not because the rest of the principles really rely on the information behind the scenes that isn’t known by the reader. These principles however, I believe are applicable to the blog and provide good steps to fallow in having a readable blog.

HW:16, Interview with Ito

Monday, February 25th, 2008

I really enjoyed the interview on Joi Ito, a very intelligent man from Japan also known as “the King of Japanese Blogging”. Besides that, I was very interested in what his responses were going to be like, coming from such a figure of Japan. After all, reading just the first few responses he seemed like he definitely knew most everything about the blogging life although, he explained that blogging is going to become more difficult to keep the business status up because of the cost. Granted, everything is going up these days, but I didn’t realize that blogging is getting more expensive because it’s becoming more popular. So too, Ito stated, “it’s going to become less expensive to distribute the stuff.” Of course meaning more people are going to be putting information out there and it’s going to become harder to get them to specifically read business material. Therefore he gave his input on how creativity will help in that case of getting bloggers main interests. As a result of this interview with Joi Ito, I saw his points of how blogging can be so powerful, but yet to look at it with my own perspective.

HW: 14 communication Through Business

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

After reading “Blogs Will Change your Business” I have decided the impact on blogging on business is more important than blogging on communication that is non-business. I’m backing up this statement because blogging has an enormous impact with the spread of knowledge about the uncountable number of businesses out there today. That’s the point of the business blogosphere, to gain the interest of customers and perhaps create profit. Communication that is non-business really is not heard about as much because even the pop-ups on your computer are business. Someone or something is always trying to promote their goods, getting people interested and satisfying to what the people want and need. Business communication is very important for all different races, genders, and religions. It provides us with the knowledge about our political campaigns and the people running for office. Business blogs have their number one supporters spreading their information all over the blogosphere for them.  Barker and Green is this chapter commented on the Netflix person stating, “Sounds like he’s half journalist, half consultant-though he insists Netflix doesn’t pay him.” Although you may think communication through business may seem of concern to only business related bloggers, it should in fact concern anyone who cares about society.

HW:13 Favorite Post of the Week

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

I chose to look under jezebel for an interesting blog post and guess what I found one. It’s called Friendship on the Rocks? Let Jezebel Be Your Therapist! This post has a picture of the former best friends Paris Hilton and Nichole Richie. Basically everyone on the face of the earth has had a best friend, but most of us have had them slip right away as if the friendship never existed. This post provides examples of friendships that have gone bad in different ways. The writers of Jezebel stated “friendship is the new marriage, and at Jezebel it’s to the death!”  Jezebel wants readers to send in their friendship gone bad stories and they will interview each friend on their background information. After that they will ask the experts if your friendship is capable of being saved. If so they will provide strategies for rebuilding that connection that used to be there. This little experiment is called “Can This Friendship Be Saved?” and its modeled after “Ladies Home Journal”.
