The Jezebel website follows the manifesto that is described by Scoble’s. The Jezebel website follows rule number three, rule number three states that a person should use the human voice. Jezebel defiantly follows bloggers using an original voice. The bloggers who write on this site aren’t concerned about what other people are going to say about their style of writing. The bloggers write what they feel and what they know about celebrities and they’re scandals. Another rule that applies to “Jezebel” is number eighteen linking to other websites that discus or sells the same things. “Jezebel” provides links to other sites that are about celebrities and strange news in the media. A point that I believe “Jezebel” does not follow is the fact that in Scoble’s number one rule he says; “say the whole truth. And nothing but the truth,” I do not believe “Jezebel” always talks the whole truth. Fabrications and totally made up stories are on this site. I do not believe that the manifesto applies to “Jezebel” totally. I believe this because this blogging site is no selling anything just providing information about the media.

After reading “Japanese Blogger Champions Internet Democracy” Joi Ito Interview (Kline and Burstein 143-150), I came to realize how important blogging can be an easy way for every day average people to create something that can really empower people. For intense in the interview Ito says “the consumer is now become a producer, and I think this is going to have an across-the-board change in everything from music to media.” Ultimately, this is saying that through blogging people can create something that can turn them into more successful people. For example Ito says in the interview that when people comment back on his blogs he gains knowledge, when a person gains knowledge they are opening up new doors for themselves. In addition Ito also mentions how he believes that one day the internet and in turn blogging will no longer be as open as it is now. Ito explains that this would be something he would not like to see, since blogging can be really powerful to people. In conclusion I’m happy I got the chance to read this. With every passage I read about blogging it further enhances my interest in the technology I never thought about before.

“Warning to dudes: Cigarettes and Booze can mangle your sperm” an article written by Jessica on Jezebel’s website is about how men too can cause defects if they drink and smoke while trying to conceive a child. I picked this article because the title was catchy and the article although very informative was also very comical. In the post Jessica can be quoted as saying

“Women in New York City might want to be checking out rival sperm banks, as some local ones have not been inspected since 2004, according to Gothamist.”  This really caught my attention because if I were trying to conceive a child the old fashion way and couldn’t and a donation was my other option, and I find out that the sperm bank hasn’t been inspected in years I would be very apprehensive. I also enjoyed the article because when pregnancy is talked about it is the women who has to carry the child around, I am happy to see that in this blog men are being told that they also can have something to do with defects from smoking and drinking.

After reading Rebecca Mackinnon’s interview with Kline and Burstein (325-333) I learned that blogging is a powerful tool in relaying information throughout the entire world. The “Global voices Online” that is published by Harvard provides a ton of information about issues that are happening around the world. I read an article about the cyclone that is headed towards Madagascar. I liked how not only they gave text about the issue but they provided pictures and maps as to where the cyclone was located.  The colors used in the blog are simple blue black and grey, I believe they use these colors because the site should be taken seriously. If they used fun and exciting colors one may get the wrong impression of the site at first glance. People who blog on this site are all different kinds of people, either interested or affected first hand by the events.

“Wherever the government or a small elite controls the press, weblogs are emerging as a form of alternative and sometimes dissident press.” MacKinnon    (327)

I agree with what MacKinnon is saying. When something is controlled in totalitarian governments it is hard for people to form an opinion without being punished, or worse. Blogging gives an opportunity for people to voice their opinions without being harmed. ALTHOUGH I GRANT THAT people should be able to freely express their opinions, I STILL MAINTAIN THAT not all countries believe in freedom of speech.

“A Weblog Saved My Life Last Night,” was an interview that really peaked my interest further in blogging.  Ayelet Waldman gave some strong personal points as to why blogging is very, very important to her life. I agree that Waldman is correct about the fact that there is a level of education to be found on the internet, a point that needs emphasizing since so many people believe that there is no good coming out of the internet. In the interview Waldman also is questioned about if men’s blogs are less sympathetic than women’s. Her response is that she does believe that men are less sympathetic than women’s blogs. I think that Waldman is mistaken because she overlooks the fact that she has not possibly read all the blogs that men write, it is very possible that there are blogs where men really share their thoughts.  I believe that blogging can be very effective and amazing way for people to express their thoughts. After reading this interview it has made me understand this even more, blogging saved this women’s life and that is something that is truly amazing.

I believe that on-line journals are a good place for children to post their thoughts. I believe that parents should moderate their children’s journals, but I do not believe that parents should continuously check their child’s journal. If there is a noticeable change in the child’s behavior or a noticeable problem it might be a good source to find out how as a parent you can help. It is said in Nussbaum’s reading that there are different reasons children write in these journals. Writing’s about the child’s daily life, or writing that can confront a parent’s worst nightmare:  “then there are the kinds of posts that fulfill a parent’s worst paranoia. “It was just a nite of lying to my dad.”” (Nussbaum 355) Another thing I believe that parents should moderate is the time a child is spending on the computer. Emily Nussbaum’s, “my so-called blog,” it is said that: When M. gets home from school, he immediately logs on to his computer.”  (Nussbaum 349) In conclusion I believe that parents need to moderate not stalk their child’s journal, there are children who desperately need the attention and don’t get it elsewhere.

For my research paper I am definitely interested in researching the marginalized groups of medical conditions/illness, children, and teens. The reason I would like to research one of these groups is because as a physical education major I will be working with these people more than any other marginalized group. The technologies I would like to research are e-learning, distance learning and blogging. I believe that learning more about these will help me better in my profession. Finding out more and more about things in the education world will give me a larger step in front of others. Writing a paper will be tedious but I will be getting a lot out of it. If I can understand more about how various new technologies can help different types of people it will help me not only in my profession but also in a better understanding people as a whole.

“I Blog, Therefore I am,” by David Kline is discussing the fact that readers are reading less and less newspapers.  According to the chapter mainstream media will be changed forever through blogging. It says that people are reading papers less and watching news programs less as well. I reject the fact that this is true, at my home my father starts off everyday reading the newspaper and ends ever day watching the news. He is not the only person who that applies to there are many people that don’t have computers. If you do not have a computer the likely hood of you going on one to check a blog is slim to none. Although computers seem to have been around forever there are many people who grew up in times without them, and now have no desire to use them. If you spent your whole life getting your news from papers and the television you’re not going to change it just because that is the new thing.  I do understand that blogging is a very effective way in getting people to communicate efficiently, and towards the end of the chapter he discusses this. When did the world change from hearing the news from sitting around their radio to watching it on the television? I believe that technology is constantly changing and blogging is just adding to that.

All companies offer a promise that will intrigue the consumer. An intrigued customer is more likely to spend their dollars on that product. Tag body spray is no exception their website is promising that if a guy uses it he will get all the ladies. The website is very uninformative but very persuasive. If a young guy were to look at this and actually believe that a scent would help him get his “lover,” he would be more likely to want to use it. On the website you can click on scents and each scent has a different animation with the boy getting tackled by girls dressed up in scandalous outfits. All of the scents also have their own link, the link provides the name and when the best time to use the specific one would be. The scents names are; all-nighter, after hours, midnight, and first move. All of the names are very suggestive. My personal opinion the tag body spray will not help a guy get a girl. Sure if it smells good and he’s a looker girls will be more likely to approach him than an unattractive smelly boy.

Blogging is a very effective strategy in the political world. I agree with the idea that news papers do not offer all of the information to the public. Newspapers are edited whereas blogging offers people to express all of their ideas without the fear of being censored. Blogging is proven to be a very popular way to express ideas, millions of people are signing on a month to see what’s new.  What I am wondering is if blogging can actually give factual information. How can you trust everything you read on a blog when in actuality it is just a person expressing their own ideas? Don’t get me wrong I think it is great that people can log onto sites and express what they believe about presidential candidates or political topics in general. What I found really interesting was the story about Sen. Trent Lott. Beliefs were changed just because more people were reading about it on various blogs. After the scandal was out the senator stepped down from his position.
