Teachers’ Institute Today.
A teachers’ Institute has been held today at the high school building with an attendance of about 175 teachers – a very good number considering the fact that many of the schools in the country towns have not yet begun their summer terms.
In the morning Prof. Collins of Middlebury college gave an analysis of elementary and secondary education with many statistics and cost figures and Professor Chester H. C. Dudley of the normal school in Keene gave an illustrated address on systems and methods in drawing. Supt. Mason of North Andover explained how practical training in agriculture gardening, etc. is given in the schools in his district, where an encouraging and lively interest is taken in the work by the scholars. School gardens, home gardens, window box displays and the like are opened to prizes to be competed for, the grange and Improvement society combining to stimulate and encourage the work.
The business session of the Cheshire County Teachers’ association at 11:15 was mainly devoted to the collection of dues from members.
