TEACHERS AND JANITORS
Results of Elections in Union School District with Two Vacancies in Teaching Force
The list of teachers in Union school district has been completed, with two exceptions. There have been many changes owing to a desire on the part of some of the teachers to attend a normal school and on the part of others to obtain situations in larger cities. The Elliot school is now under the control of the normal school authorities and will be used as a model school….
The normal school will fill the Elliot building with four grades, 1, 2, 3 and 4, leaving the kindergarten and grades 5 and 6 to be cared for by the Union district. Two rooms will be fitted up in the building formerly used as a barn situated on the normal school property, and in this building will be placed the kindergarten under Bertha E. Whitcomb and grades 5 and 6 under Harriet E. Cole. This is known as the Winchester street school.
Of the grade teachers who left the district this year Lillian M. Hapgood and Eunice A. Jones will teach in the model school connected with the normal school, M. Alice Jones and Gena E. Stone will attend the Bridgewater, Mass., normal school on leave of absence, Florence E. Russell will attend the Keene normal, Effie M. Hull and Eliza C, Simpson will teach in Brockton, Mass. They all declined reelection, as did also Olive M. Searle, Marjorie A. Bissell and Stella Falk.
The assistants chosen are Marion Gilmore, Bertha E. Parkinson, Helen M. Warren and Alta M. Kimball. Of the former assistants not elected teachers in the district H. Blanche Chandler and Gertrude L. Kingsbury will attend the Keene normal school, and J. Mae Spencer was not a candidate for reelection.
The following janitors have been reelected: High school, Frank H. Weeks; Franklin, E. F. Hemphill; Tilden, Frank H. Gibbs; Washington, Charles A. Chaplin; Lincoln, Alonzo D. Simmons; Fuller and North Washington, Edward Baker; Symonds, Ellery E. Rugg.
At the Elliot building the normal school authorities will provide the janitor.
The schools in the former suburban district begin Sept. 7 and in the former Union district Sept. 13. The Elliot schools begin Sept. 13.
