RATIONALE:
The field of Organometallic Chemistry sits at the interface between the traditional divisions of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. Over the past 50 years Organometallic Chemistry has flourished into a major research area, which has revolutionized our understanding of both fundamental chemical principals (such as: ‘What constitutes a chemical bond?’ and ‘What types of chemical compounds can exist?’) as well as providing new catalysts and reagents for the formation of industrial and pharmaceutical materials.
The study Organometallic Chemistry will allow our students to expand their knowledge of both Organic and Inorganic Chemistry and make connections between these two traditionally different fields.
