I have been thinking about what the best topic for my term paper should be. I decided that I want to write about file sharing among youth in America and Europe. I have been interested with file sharing and the ingenuity of it for some time now and I want to learn more. Why did I pick these two places? Because I want to visit Europe again and I live here in the U.S. Europe is a better version of America. They have all the technology that we have, but my impression is that they don’t spend quite as much time as Americans do online. The thing that interests me is that you could have a friend say in France and you could send a song or a document or whatever you wanted to that friend in a blink of an eye through the Internet.
As for youth being denied privileges, well that is nothing new to me. My sister was banned from using the computer because she was on it constantly talking to her friends online more than her family. Today’s youth can have their own voice I think if they show that they deserve it. I remember when the thought of playing a DVD in a computer was extraordinary! That was not very long ago. Technology has evolved in so many ways in so little time that our generation is left with the task of learning it all quickly, which so far has not seemed to be a problem. File sharing is just one of many ways the computer has grown to fit people’s most trivial needs or desires over the past decade.
I use Limewire, which is a file sharer for music mainly, but there are other ways of sharing music and other files such as Napster, Pownce, and a site called Internet Archive. All these examples are sites that offer access to shared audio, video and picture files that are available to anyone. Isn’t the Internet just amazing?!
