Today’s fun: Speculate on what secret code is behind who’s holding flowers and who’s holding a diploma and who’s holding nothing.

So we’ve been thinking about Fiske ever since Monday, and about a certain story we read about its opening in Striving, the history of the college that was written for its 75th anniversary.

Apparently, when the first dorm was finally “ready,” it wasn’t, quite. The stain on the doors and in the closets wasn’t dry when school started in 1914. One alum remembered the matron going around, getting an account from each student of clothes that had been ruined as a result, so the college could reimburse.
