1967
Today, it is beautiful and in the 70s in Keene, with warmer weather ahead. You remember what that first amazingly beautiful, almost-summer day felt like, right?
Jayne Washer sure does:
In spring 1967, when this beautiful weather started, girls could not lay out in their bathing suits – only on the roof of Fiske Annex. We had to get out there by climbing through a window of the entry hall of Fiske Hall. Of course, even though it was the 60’s Grounds employees were ordered to erect canvas along the sides to block out the view of we girls in our “2-piece” suits! By 1969 we could lay out in the sun on Randall Lawn without a protective canvas fence!!!
My how things have changed!
Thanks, Jayne.
So what are your memories?

I remember that canvas that Jayne mentions.
I was a freshman living in Monadnock Hall in the spring of 1966. Once the weather warmed up, the gals came out to sun themselves on that Fiske Hall roof and out came the binoculars in Monadnock. Soon, up went the canvas, and it turned out to be a big topic of conversation in that dorm. Someone speculated how it would really be a shame if somebody stole the canvas. My friend Big Clem Hamilton (leader of the aborted November ‘65 Fiske Hall panty raid that I recounted in another post) agreed, grinning that distinctive grin of his. The next morning the canvas was gone.
After a couple of days, the perps were tracked down and brought to justice, though. Their leader — Big Clem — made a plea bargain: to avoid being booted out of KSC, he revealed the location of the canvas and agreed to see that it got restored to its rightful place, guarding KSC’s coeds from the prying eyes of the Monadnock Hall population.
