In the 1930’s Keene Normal had a swimming requirement. My great aunt Alice Ouellette ‘35, told me several times how she completed her swimming test, then immediately threw away her bathing suit and never swam again!
This swimming pool was located in the basement of the original Spaulding Gymnasium, which now is Rhodes Hall. It is still there, believe it or not, partially filled in and it contains a large emergency electrical generator for the building!

The swimming pool was located in the Spaulding building on the first floor across the hall from the bowling alley!
