Send Us Your… Love stories
Welcome to the first-ever results of our first-ever Send-Us-Your request! We got some great stuff from some good friends of the College.
I think it was Thursday, February 5, 1970, when I stood in the social room of Alpha house on Madison Street with my roommate, Brian McCullough ’71, discussing date possibilities for our fraternity party that Friday night. Brian suggested he call his girlfriend, June Rice ’73, to see if she had any ideas. Being socially inept I agreed.
June was a freshman living in Huntress Hall. When presented with the proposition she reluctantly agreed but asked for some ideas. I described through Brian a very attractive blonde girl who I had seen around campus wearing very short skirts. June knew exactly who I was describing because she lived just down the hall from her. June said, that’s Karen she has a date, can you think of anyone else. I didn’t have to think hard. There was another beautiful girl I had my eye on, who I had seen wearing an old full-length fur coat. June laughed at this and said, oh that’s Karen’s roommate, Kitty (McClure ’73).
Figuring I had really screwed that one up by asking about two roommates. I was surprised when June said Kitty would go to the party with me. Whether it was fate or chemistry or hard work, Kitty and I were married a little over two years later in June 1972, and yes we still are.
Interestingly, my “first” choice for a date that night, Karen Browning ’73 and her date Russ MacDonald ’71 ended up as a bridesmaid and groomsman in our wedding.
from Carmen Prandini Trafton ’95:
The first time that I noticed Bill was at a WKNH general meeting in early 1991. He was wearing blue jeans, a black tee-shirt, oxblood Dr. Martins, and a flight jacket; but what intrigued me most of all was his 8 inch mohawk!!!
That night I learned that he was training to be a DJ. Later that week, I recorded his first time on the air and then went up to the station to meet him. My heart was fluttering and I was nervous. He was funny and good looking. A bad boy with brains. A Deadhead who loved hardcore. Unbelievable! We talked for quite a while that day in the record library. He was very cool and I really liked him!
A few weeks later he took me to the ’KNH “anti-prom” and we’ve been together ever since. He hosted “Your Mom’s Favorite Radio Show” and served on the Executive Board of ’KNH. I served as General Manager and am sometimes still remembered as “Carmen Darkangelo, the Dark Angel of Radio.” We had some outrageous times and share some amazing college memories.
We got married in the Cape in 2001. In 2003 we returned to Keene, bought a house and gave birth to our daughter, Hallie Catherine. We still see friends from school and absolutely love being part of the Keene community again. I serve on the KSC Alumni Association Board of Directors and enjoy hearing other love stories and meeting those who share this special bond. So although it might not be typical, ours is a story of true love and we reminisce every time we tune into 91.3FM.
