See Jayne talk about Fiske
On a recent tour of shiny-new Fiske, we caught wind that Jayne Washer (’70), who’s now a program support assistant with the Aspire program at KSC, lived in Fiske in 1966-67. We asked her to tell us a little more about her experiences in the first dorm on campus, back when it was only about 50 years old.
On the social aspects of life in Fiske:
On her old room:
On the availability of on-campus housing:
On life with curfews:
On dodging those curfews:
On Christmastime at Fiske (awww):
Got Fiske stories of your own to tell? Leave them in the comments.

When I attended fall of ‘65, my first campus job was busboy in the dining hall downstairs in Fiske. We had three servings for dinner, and the first was a massive race down the stairs to get a seat. You could look over from Fiske to Monadnock, the mens freshmen dorm, and see quarts of milk taken from the dining area sitting on the window sills to keep from spoiling. We also had a housemother who ran the dining hall. I cannot remember her name, but I think she smoked Camels anywhere she wanted. It was “family style”, fun and warm and friendly attitudes, absolutely the best part of a small school.

Remember when the lights went out all over the northeast in November of ‘65, Jay? I was in my room in Monadnock Hall, but Big Clem Hamilton (and he WAS big) and a bunch of other guys were having supper in Fiske when that happened. When the lights went out, Clem yelled, “Panty raid!” and headed upstairs followed by his usual entourage. The housemother was standing at the top of the stairs holding a flashlight. Sternly she asked, “Where do you boys think you’re going?” “Nowhere, Ma,” said Clem. The raiders all turned around and headed back down the stairs.
