HOUSING SELECTION FAQ’S

Q: How do I know which housing selection event is for me?

A: Students who will have accumulated 52 or more credits as of the end of the Spring 2010 semester will be eligible for the junior/senior event on February 12.  Students who will have accumulated 51 or fewer credits as of the end of the Spring 2010 semester will select on March 28.

Q: What will happen if there are no rooms available based on my lottery number?

A: If no housing is available based on your lottery number, you can choose to be placed on the waitlist.  Students on the waitlist will be placed in housing throughout the spring semester and summer months on a space available basis.

If you are placed on the waitlist at the housing selection event, you MUST pay the $300 housing deposit to remain on the waitlist. The deposit will be refunded to you upon request if we are not able to place you or if you notify us to remove you from the waitlist prior to being offered housing.

Q: What should I do if I participate in the Study Away program or take a leave of absence for Spring 2010?

A: Students who are studying away or taking a leave of absence for the Spring 2010 semester should have completed the online housing release form before the end of the Fall 2009 semester.  If you indicated that you intend to return to housing for the Fall 2010 semester, you will need a proxy to go through the housing selection process in your absence.  If you don’t have a proxy, please contact the Residential Life Office (reslifeadmin@keene.edu) and we will proxy for you.  You are still responsible for all other eligibility requirements to secure housing, including registering for Fall 2010 classes.

Note:  Students who are studying away or taking a leave for Spring 2010 do not have to place a housing deposit during the Spring 2010 deposit event.

Q: What should I do if I study away or take a leave of absence for Fall 2010?

A: If you intend to study away or take a leave for Fall 2010 and plan to return to housing for Spring 2011, you must place a deposit during the Spring 2010 timeline to secure housing for when you return.  You do not have to select housing at the Spring selection events, you will be assigned housing prior to your return for Spring 2011.

Please be sure to remove all trash and recyclables leaving your room clean.

Please sign the sign out sheet that was left on your door as that will alert the staff that you have left and we will then be able to check your room.

The halls will re-open on Sunday, November 29th at noon.

Hello MiHuFi Residents!

With Thanksgiving break quickly approaching, please read this email carefully.  You should have already had or will soon be having a mandatory floor meeting with your RA to go over the process as well.

Beginning this Wednesday there will also be large posters put up in the entrance way of each building.  On Wednesday or Thursday of this week there will be a half sheet of yellow paper taped to your door.  This sheet will also outline the tasks that need to be completed before leaving for the break.  In addition, when you leave for break, please sign your name to it so that we know when the room is vacant.

  • Students must dispose of room/bathroom trash in outside dumpsters before they leave.
  • Students must dispose of all recyclables in appropriate containers near the dumpsters.
  • Close and lock all windows.
  • Shut all shades and drapes.
  • Students need to take EVERYTHING they need with them before they leave. They will not be able to access their room after closing.
  • Turn off all lights and lock the door. Appliances do not need to be unplugged.

All residents need to be out of the residence halls by NOON - Wednesday, November 25, 2009. At that time, the RAs will e conducting Health & Safety Exams.  This process is that the RAs are paired up and will enter each and every room as a pair in order to make sure there are no H&S violations in the room.  In addition to the list above, some examples of things that are being checked include: NO extension cords, NO candles, NO hot plates, NO incense, NO alcohol containers (especially if you are underage).  Decorations should be hung flat to the wall.  Your room should be clean.  Windows and blinds should be closed.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.  Thank you and enjoy the break!

It has come to my attention that many of you are frustrated with slow internet.  I am alerting the Help Desk to this concern, but in the meantime, this is what you can do to help remedy the problem:

1)       Visit the website: http://bulge.keene.edu/ and run a speed test at different intervals throughout the day, and record your results each time. Do this prior to calling the help desk. From there they can judge the severity of the issue and how best to approach it.

2)      Call the help desk directly so that they can troubleshoot specifically. They will also need to know some more specific information. How long has this been happening? Is it wired or wireless having the issue? What time of day is the issue the best/worst?  Please be ready to offer this information when you call (603-358-2532).
