Creative Campus Innovations Grant

What Sustains Us?

About CCIG

without comments

The CCIG (Creative Campus Innovations Grant) blog was created to compile notes, ideas and goals that have been generated during the process of Keene State College’s Redfern Arts Center’s application to Round II of the Creative Campus Grant. Our topic is “What Sustains Us?” and we intend to explore this topic as a discussion across campus and throughout the community- joining with key partners and approaching the theme of sustainability both broadly and specifically, in an attempt not to find one answer to the question but to delve into the question itself.  Sharon Fantl

In a recent press release, and a campus wide email message, readers were invited to offer their thoughts. Please visit the Invitation to Participate page at the top of the sidebar to comment, or send a message to ccig@keene.edu.

Specifics about the grant can be viewed at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) site (http://www.apapconference.org/creative-campus-guidelines-and-application.html?CFID=202948&CFTOKEN=67759428

APAP will award the grant with funds from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation: http://www.ddcf.org/

PROJECT AND PROCESS OVERVIEW 2/2/10

Currently, the Grant Application Planning Committee is working to craft the outcomes of the discovery process into a Round 2 proposal. The Advisory Committee -formerly the Core Committee- will meet on 2/10/10 (12-2pm #307 Student Center) to review a draft of the proposal and offer feedback. Read more below.

If you are new to this project:

Briefly, in Spring of 2009, Bill Menezes, director  of the Redfern Arts Center, had enlisted support and interest on campus to define a theme for a campus and community based thematic study, with artists and the creative process itself as collaborators in interdisciplinary exploration. The application for Round 1 approval was accepted by APAP, and a participatory process, intended to further discover the extent of what interested faculty, community partners, and Keene State College Administration had in mind, began in ernest.

For more detail on the Round 1 proposal, go to the sidebar : Categories> Overview/ Progress Summaries> CCIG Press Release 11/19/2010

The  Round 2 grant proposal will outline a structure that can encourage and support a broad level of campus and community participation, as interest will be generated by the expected buzz, the gravity, and the relevance of the theme and title- which is a question. What Sustains Us? is an invitation to inquiry and reflection at any level that fits the needs of interested collaborators.

Primarily, the proposal will focus on the specifics of identified “Lead Projects.”  These are projects that are curated by the Redfern Arts Center. Bill Menezes has a firm curatorial vision regarding the artists who will collaborate with identified Lead Partners from the campus and the community. The vision: artists, students, faculty and lead community partners will explore the question, and Redfern will present culminating works that result from bridging the academic learning process, the creative process, and community service.

See meeting minutes archive> 1/20 core committee meeting minutes for more details from the curatorial view. Statements from the artists can be viewed here: Lead Partners> Artist’s Statement: Sandglass Theater and > Artist’s Statement: PEARSONWIDRIGDANCETHEATER.

Also, see Overview/Progress Summaries> KSCs Own CCIG Structure -Updated for a view of the management structure that will support this range of activity.

A good deal of the information needed to write the Round 2 proposal has been gathered, though further role-specific input is being gathered from individuals as the writing progresses.

Interested?  Please feel encouraged to visit this blog to discuss the full potential of this project and what it means to you, the campus and the community.
