Advancement Division Restructuring News

From Maryann Lindberg, Advancement: The Division of Advancement is pleased to announce some new staffing changes, effective January 1, 2010. These changes are part of the Division-wide restructuring we have been working on to enable us to more effectively help the College meet its institutional goals.

First, two of our departments are re-merging to form a new, more integrated department. The departments of Online Communications and College & Media Relations have now merged to become the Marketing & Communications Department, under the able guidance of Kim Accorsi, former director of Online Communications. Susan Peery, who has done a wonderful job of heading up the College & Media Relations department over the past few years, is happy to be moving back full-time into the editorial role she loves. Robin Dutcher will continue as the campus spokesperson.

I would like to thank both Kim and Susan for their work in determining the best way to coordinate all of our communications and marketing efforts, as well as everyone in the Marketing & Communications Department for their patience as we take on these new challenges. This is an exciting time!

Second, I am pleased to announce that the Advancement Services area is now under the direction of Michelle Fuller. Beth Martin is moving up into a broader and more technical area within the division, taking advantage of our newly-merged database and its capabilities. Again, I want to thank both Michelle and Beth for their hard work in realigning these important functions.

All of us in the Division of Advancement thank you for partnering with us as we promote this great institution. We look to a fruitful New Year!

New Staffing Model at Alumni & Parent Relations

From Patty Farmer, Alumni & Parent Relations: The Alumni & Parent Relations Office has a new staffing model that will help us expand our outreach efforts and broaden the impact that alumni have on campus with students and with one another.

We have created two assistant director for Alumni & Parent Relations positions, each with a distinct role in the department. Kay MacLean, who has been with the department for over a decade, will transition to the assistant director position that will develop and grow our Alumni to Alumni Career Services outreach and volunteer management. She will also coordinate the 25th through Golden Circle (50 year+) class reunions, and Golden Circle programming. Kay’s office is on the third floor of the Barry Alumni Center in the front of Elliot Hall.

Pauline Dionne, another long-time veteran of KSC who has been with us part time, will transition to the department full time as the senior administrative assistant. Pauline’s office will be in the Alumni & Parent Relations reception area, on the second floor of Elliot Hall.

Sara Telfer has been hired as our second assistant director, and she will concentrate on developing new programs to engage students and recent alumni in Alumni Relations activities. Sara will be responsible for the identification, recruitment, and orientation/training of students and recent alumni volunteers in new programs (including career planning, alumni mentoring, internships, and initiating a student- driven Student Ambassadors program). She will also manage strategic development of technology-based services provided to students and alumni and parents. Sara’s office will be next to Kay’s on the third Floor of the Barry Alumni Center in the front of Elliot Hall. Sara will join us August 10.

Our Alumni Association Board of Directors has worked hard to assess the program offerings of the past few decades and many of these new initiatives are a result of that self-assessment and strategic planning. Many more events/programs will be reviewed/revised, and we will work to expand offerings for greater engagement between the campus community and the alumni and parent constituency groups.

Thank you to all who have helped us in our transitions with your encouragement and enthusiasm. We are all very excited about the changes, and the construction of the new Alumni Center. Please don’t hesitate to contact any one of our staff with questions or comments.

As director of Online Communications, Kim provides leadership to the Online Communications Office and guides the development of effective online communication tools. The Online Communications Office works to connect and engage the College with prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members while telling the story of Keene State through a variety of online channels. Online Communications is a member of the Advancement division and works closely with a variety of campus departments to express and further the institution’s goals.

Kim comes to Keene State from Plymouth State University, where she served as the Web Communications Manager. Prior to her time at Plymouth, she worked as a consultant and designer for a variety of clients, including Dartmouth College and the Educational Leadership Foundation, in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. Kim has worked in the web and online communications industry for almost 10 years, beginning her career with Scripps College in Claremont, Calif.

The director of Development is responsible for forming, directing, and implementing a comprehensive development program to advance the College’s mission and programs through on-going communication, strategic planning, programming, and fundraising.

Ken comes to Keene State from the University of Connecticut Foundation. After 21 years as a director in YMCA work, he began his higher-ed career at Utica College of Syracuse University and then directed the annual giving programs at Colgate University and the University of Pennsylvania. In 2003, he accepted the position of assistant vice president for annual giving at the University of Connecticut Foundation and finished his work at UConn as the Executive Director of Principal Gifts.

“We are so pleased that Ken and Kim have joined our Advancement team,” said Maryann Lindberg, vice president for Advancement. “The expertise they bring, along with their enthusiasm, will be of tremendous benefit as we seek to engage more of the College’s various constituent groups in the life of Keene State College.”
