This new piece of equipment will be used both in the laboratory and the classroom and will provide students with hands-on experience in forensic chemistry with state-of-the-art instrumentation while also highlighting the need for miniaturized measurement systems for field applications beyond the chemistry laboratory.

Mary Jensen shared this video, produced by students for students, on eating better at the Dining Commons.
It’s a neat example of student work, and has some good advice for the rest of us, too!
What are your students doing that we should know about?

From the IT Group:
Recently, some users on campus have received a pop-up on their computer indicating they have a virus. This pop-up is a fake virus warning and will infect your computer if you click OK or click the red X to close it.
If you ever receive a suspicious pop-up, do not click on the red X to close it. The best way is to end the task. Simply press control-alt-delete to bring up the Task Manager. Click on the Applications Tab, find the name you see in the title bar of the pop-up, click on that application to highlight it and click the End Task button on the bottom. That will close the pop-up without infecting your computer.
If this box continues to reappear, your computer begins to run very slowly or you have pop-ups that are continuous and annoying, contact the HelpDesk and we will be happy to help you get your computer back in good condition.

By now, most readers of Campus News have likely heard about Harriet Richardson Ames receiving her degree last week. In case not:
- See it in Newsline
- See it in The New York Times
- See it in The Washington Post
- See it on The Chronicle of Higher Education’s blog
- See it on Huffington Post
- etc., etc., etc.
Pretty terrific, right? What an accomplished alumna, what a great story.
It seems worth mentioning, though, that even if the rest of the world doesn’t have as much reason to be interested in this as we do: This is the result of a lot of really amazing teamwork by a lot of dedicated people and offices on campus. I hate to start mentioning, for fear of forgetting, but I’ll start here and hope that if I leave anyone out you’ll pick up the slack for me in the comments: Congratulations, Alumni and Parent Relations (including volunteer Norma Walker ‘51). And Development. And Registrar’s Office. And Provost’s Office. And Film Studies Department. And Education Department.
What a nice example of community and teamwork, doing something important and worthy.
