Forest Community Inventory
This course provides an introduction to identifying woody plant and eco-indicator species, and to the New Hampshire Natural Heritage Bureau’s system for classifying forest communities, with an emphasis on “matrix” and smaller “inclusionary” forest types in southwest New Hampshire and the community ecology of common tree species. Course texts include the New Hampshire Natural Heritage Bureau’s Guide to Natural Communities (available online), Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, and a tree guide of the student’s choosing. A background in plant identification is helpful, but not required. Course fee: $175.
In 2008, Forest Community Inventory will meet on Tuesdays, August 26 — September 9 from 8 — 10 am, and on Saturday, September 13, from 9 am — 3 pm. The registration deadline is Friday, August 15, so register soon if you’re interested!
