Birding by Ear
Because birds are often heard before seen (and sometimes never seen!), learning their unique, distinguishable songs is an important birding skill. This early summer course provides an introduction to birdsong identification, with special focus on breeding birds in southwest New Hampshire. Students learn to categorize birdsong and to recognize the songs and calls of local species; they also gain exposure to scientific methods for monitoring bird populations using birdsong.
