Vernal Pools

Vernal pools are small, temporary ponds that serve as critical breeding habitat for amphibians, insects, and even tiny clams and crustaceans. In efforts to protect this vital wildlife habitat, AVEO trains volunteers to identify vernal pools throughout Cheshire County during the spring and early summer months, with a special focus on lands where information is needed for imminent conservation planning.

In 2008, vernal pool ecology and identification workshops will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 10 am — 1 pm, and on Thursday, May 1 from 5 — 8 pm.  Interested volunteers need only attend one workshop.

Workshops are free, but pre-registration is required.  For more information or to register, contact AVEO at (603) 358-2065 or brett@aveo.org.
