Nighthawk Success!!!

Last Thursday, Ken Klapper and David Moon observed a fledgling Common Nighhawk being fed by its father on the roof of a Keene Housing Authority building on Central Square. This is the only documented successful breeding by nighthawks in New Hampshire this year, and the first one in Keene. Common Nighthawks were listed as endangered in New Hampshire last fall. Since Thursday night, Ken has observed lots more interactions between the chick and her/his dad and lots of territorial displays by pop. To read more about Project Nighthawk click here, and here to see an interesting video clip of Nighhawk defensive behavior.
