From the leading edge innovators to those new to technology, the AT staff are committed to helping faculty and staff realize the possibilities that technology can bring to teaching and learning.  Our examples emphasize students learning and include faculty who have integrated common desktop applications to less common web 2.0 approaches.

If you have an example that you would like to share, please let us know. We will be updating “Integration examples” each semester and welcome new content.

Spring 2009 Spotlight :: Margaret Langford

Dr. Margaret Langford

Dr. Margaret Langford

When it comes to using technology, Dr. Margaret Langford of the Modern Languages department likes to call

herself a “technological minimalist”. “I go for simplicity and will use whatever is available that will enhance my classes.” This might include using YouTube videos or other internet finds, TV5-French TV that is available through KSC’s cable system or free software that is readily available, like PowerPoint.

Dr. Langford encourages her students to use technology in her classes. One way she does this is by asking that some of their written assignments are accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. The students usually work together on their technology based assignments. This abbreviated PowerPoint example was created by student Read Gildner-blinn, a published poet who composed a poem in french for an assignment in Dr. Langford’s FR-316-Composition in French class. Another popular use of technology comes in the form of blogs. Students in the Study Abroad program are encouraged to keep journal blogs in french.
