Pumpkins, Pumpkins and Open House?

Last weekend, October 25, the city of Keene hosted the 18th annual Pumpkin Festival in downtown Keene. If you have never heard or been to the pumpkin festival I encourage you the check out the website to see pictures and information regarding this fabulous fall event. The day before Pumpkin Fest, our quad on campus turns into a pumpkin patch. Aptly called Pumpkin Lobotomy, students sit and carve pumpkins to take downtown for visitors from all over New England to see. Students love to participate in Pumpkin Fest and it’s one, of many, events on campus that students look forward too.

This weekend is Open House. We do one open house a year and this is the weekend to do it. If you have not signed up for Open House it is still not too late. You can sign up here. You must be registered to attend. If you do not want to attend Open House don’t worry, there are still numerous opportunities to visit campus.

As the cold weather settles in and we slowly come back to the office, after being on the road for weeks, we will soon start reading applications. Be sure to check the mail for information on how to access your application information online. This information will arrive to you shortly after your application is received and processed. Your WebAdvisor letter will contain a user-name and password, DO NOT lose this information!

Happy Fall!

Interviews, Essays and Recommendations

Interviews: At Keene State College we do not offer interviews. We received over 5,000 applications last year and to meet everyone of the students who applied to KSC, well that would just be impossible.

Essay: I know writing the college essay can be stressful and a bit intimidating. I’m here to tell you to RELAX. We want you to write a well written essay. We make it easy for you by providing 2 essay questions to choose from. Remember to be yourself and if the word count goes over 300, it’s ok.

Recommendations: We only require 1 recommendation when applying to KSC. We hope that your recommendation comes from either a Guidance Counselor or teacher. Many students ask me if they can include more than one recommendation when applying. My answer is always YES.

I hope these tips ease the application process a bit. I know applying to college can be overwhelming. Remember, we are here to help you. We want to the process to be exciting, not grueling.

Good Luck!
